The search for App-iness: Progressive Web Apps
The search for App-iness: Progressive Web Apps
Introduction
Progressive Web Apps combine the best of the web and the best of apps. They load quickly, even on flaky networks, as top-level, full-screen experiences. Additionally, they can be added to your home screen and can re-engage with users by sending push notifications.
But what is a Progressive Web App? At its core, a PWA is a web application that uses the latest web capabilities to deliver a native app-like experience to users. It is the technology that will bring consistency between web and native apps and replace both with a single instance. This brings along many benefits, such as:
- Mobile-First Experience
- Improves your SEO
- Reduces development costs and enables faster innovation
- Increases customer engagement
“Any webshop should consider delivering their services not just as a standard online store, but as a Progressive Web App. With the majority of eCommerce websites not adopting this new technology yet, they represent a rare and exciting opportunity to get ahead of the competition.”
Over the years, Jamie Maria Schouren, Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Deity, has attended and spoken at multiple events, among others OdessaJS and JSNation. One of her talks was called: The search for App-iness. In this talk, Jamie Maria explains the what, why, and how of Progressive Web Apps, and tells about her own quest in the search for "app-iness". With code examples and real-life use cases, she shows why PWAs are the future of the web!
